Basic United Methodist Church, 489 N. Winchester Ave., corner of Delphine and Fifth Street, Waynesboro, the Rev. Don Gibson — The children’s choir will meet at 9:30 a.m. Church school begins at 9:45 a.m.


The Sunday morning worship service will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Don Gibson will deliver a message based on the Bible text John 5:1-15 and Ephesians 5:8-14.


An Hispanic worship service will be held at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the United Methodist Youth Fellowship will meet.


Monday through Thursday, tutoring will be held from 4-5:30 p.m.


Tuesday, Hispanic prayer time is at 5:30 p.m., prayer time is at 6 p.m. Choir practice and adult ESL are at 7 p.m.


On Thursday, an administrative council meeting will take place at 7 p.m.

Bethany Lutheran Church, 100 Maple Ave., Waynesboro, Pastor Timothy Bohlmann — Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m., allowing children and adults to participate together in an opening and then break into groups based on age for further Bible study and activities. Traditional worship is at 8:30 a.m. and contemporary worship is at 11 a.m. Nursery services will be available all morning.


Other ministry areas include Christ Care Small Group ministry, music ministry, with handbells and choir, and a senior ministry, which meets each Wednesday at 10 a.m. for Bible study. We also offer a variety of activities for middle school and high school youth.


On Sunday, May 4, the church will host a music concert at 1:30 p.m. The concert will feature the church’s handbell choir, vocal choir, men’s chorus and additional music. Join the congregation as they worship the Lord in this unique way.

Calvary Baptist Church, 68 Benz Road, Waynesboro, Pastor W.T. Cole and Associate Pastor Joey Locklear – Sunday school classes begin at 9:45 a.m., with an 11 a.m. worship service led by Pastor Cole. Children’s church will be provided during the morning service. An evening service will begin at 6 p.m., led by Associate Pastor Locklear. Nursery care will be available during both services.


A Wednesday Bible study and prayer meeting will take place at 7 p.m., with Brian Read.


Children’s programs will be held during both the Sunday and Wednesday evening services.


 


First Presbyterian Church, 100 East Frederick St., Staunton, Dr. Richard S. Dietrich — Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. Worship will begin at 11 a.m. Dr. Richard S. Dietrich will deliver the message, “Carried Away,” based on the Gospel reading Luke 24:44-53.


Bible study is at 10:30 a.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.


Bible study will take place on Wednesday with Dr. Richard Dietrich. The study will be based on Bible text Acts 2:1-21. Morning study will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the chapel. Evening study will take place in the Potter Building from 6:45-7:45 p.m.

First Presbyterian Church, 11th Street and Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, the Rev. Glen Holman — A service will begin at 8:30 a.m., with communion served. Praise and worship is at 9:30 a.m. and traditional worship is at 11 a.m. The Rev. Glen Holman will deliver the message, “Amazing Grace,” with Ephesians 2:1-10 serving as the text.


The Sunday school schedule is as follows:


9:30-11 a.m. — ages 3-5.


9:30-10:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. — kindergarten through fifth grade


9:30-10:30 a.m. — sixth to eighth grade.


10:30 a.m. to noon — ninth to 12th grade.


9:30 a.m. — adult Sunday school.


On Thursday at 7 a.m., the men’s Bible study group will meet at Summit Square to discuss the Book of Romans. Women’s Bible study meets at the church at 1:30 p.m. to study Bible references to prayer. Newcomers are welcomed. The food bank opens at 2 p.m.

Fishersville Baptist Church, 1518 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, Pastor John Hamric – Sunday school begins at 9:40 a.m., for all ages. Sunday services will be held at 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.


Summer hours will be in effect from June 1 to August 31 and will be as follows: Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. Worship services will be at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.


The following will take place on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.: Adult Bible study, TeamKid (ages 3 through the fifth grade) and Set Apart Youth. Choir rehearsal begins at 7:30 p.m.

Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church, 688 Highland Ave., Waynesboro – The church will host its Second Sunday Forum on May 18 at 7 p.m. The topic will be “Services for the Aging,” presented by The Valley Program for Aging Services. This is a no-cost lecture, however, free-will donations are accepted to cover the lecturer’s expenses. Meeting time is 7-8 p.m., with a short question and answer period to follow.


 


Main Street United Methodist Church, 601 West Main St., Waynesboro, Pastor Todd Schlechty — Sunday school meets at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays. Contemporary worship service is at 8:30 a.m., with a traditional service taking place at 11 a.m. A children’s worship service will also begin at 11 a.m.


The sermon for this Sunday will be “Not What I Expected,” delivered by Pastor Todd Schlechty. The message will be based on the Bible text, Acts 5:12-42.


Discipleship small groups will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Mint Spring United Methodist Church – On Saturday from 3-7 p.m., join the congregation in a Party on the Lawn. Enjoy a barbecue chicken plate, hamburgers, hot dogs, coleslaw, baked beans, rolls, homemade ice cream, baked goods and beverages. The cost for the dinner is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.


The Faithful Men will sing at 5:30 p.m. A local ecuminical group, the vocalists love the Lord and lift their voices in worship and praise.


There will be plenty of children’s activities including a bounce house, duck pond, face painting and games.


Bring your own lawn chairs. Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Mint Spring United Methodist Church building fund.


 


Powerhouse Holiness Church, 158 Montrose Drive, Fishersville – The church will present the Rev. Mark Birdsong from Newwoke, N.J. Come hear a powerman of God on May 21-23 at 7 p.m. Pastor Sylvia Spears to sponsor.


 


Ridgeview Baptist Church, 124 Ridgeview Drive, Stuarts Draft, Pastor Don McClure — Sunday school, for all ages, will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday morning worship service will begin at 11 a.m. The Pastor will deliver the message “Home Improvement Series: Husbands.”


The Sunday evening service and Bible study, for all ages, will begin at 6 p.m.


Wednesday Bible studies are held at 7 p.m. and are for all ages.

Second Presbyterian Church, 133 N. Delphine Ave., Waynesboro, The Rev. Dr. John L. McDonaldSunday school classes meet from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. This Sunday, the preschool and Kids’ Journeys in Faith class will study “Early Life of Moses.” The Thoughtful Sunday school class will study faith issues.


This is graduate recognition and birthday offering Sunday. The service will be from 11 a.m. to noon.


On Tuesday, Disciples’ Kitchen will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., with Second Presbyterian Church serving. At 7:30 p.m., Ruth at home of Marjorie Childress.

Shiloh Baptist Church, 234 Shiloh Ave., Waynesboro, the Rev. Warne B. Dawkins – The church will host the Waynesboro branch 21st Annual Youth Day/Education Program on Sunday at 4 p.m.


Dr. Celeste R. Thomas of James Madison University is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. Music will be provided by the Beverly Manor Baptist Church Youth Choir. Refreshments will be served immediately after the program. The public is welcome.


Youth Ministry leaders are having a fundraiser called The Footprint Rally on May 10 at 4 p.m. The music will be rendered by the St. James Mass Choir of Waynesboro and the Beverly Manor Youth Choir. Stuarts Draft Full Gospel Church – Laura and Eddie Beckford will be speaking at the church on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Beckfords are missionaries to Arad, Israel. They will be sharing testimonies, sharing about their ministry and about the persecution of Christian beliefs in Arad.

Tabernacle Presbyterian Church – One church in two locations with three services for the glory of God and the good of the community.


The congregation worships in Waynesboro at 8:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. at 1301 Red Top Orchard Road (behind Lowe’s). Sunday school is at 10 a.m. and a nursery is available throughout the morning.


There is another service that takes place in downtown Staunton at 10 a.m. in the Grace Christian Middle School at 511 Thornrose Ave. Sunday school is at 9 a.m. and a nursery is available throughout the morning.

Waynesboro Covenant Church, Pastor Keith Harris – This Sunday, the congregation will meet at the new location in the upper room of First Presbyterian Church. The service will begin at 11 a.m. The upper room is handicapped accessible, just ask about the elevator.


The pastor will deliver the message, “What Keeps You in the Ring?,” from the book of Acts. The service will include children’s church, special music and contemporary worship. Waynesboro Free Methodist Church, corner of Ivy Street and Hopeman Parkway, Pastor David Kurtz — Waynesboro Free Methodist Church invites you to fellowship this Sunday morning.


Sunday school classes, for all ages, begin at 9:30 a.m. The worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. with contemporary worship music, hymns and a dynamic message by Pastor David Kurtz.


A staffed nursery for babies and a Mothers’ Room are available for small children where mothers can see and hear the service.

Waynesboro Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1700 Lyndhurst Road, Waynesboro, Pastor Will Johns — This Saturday, Sabbath school is at 9:30 a.m., with Bible study classes geared specifically for children from birth through age 18. There are also several adult classes available, which are currently studying the topic of the wonder of Jesus.


The main worship service is at 10:50 a.m. and includes time for singing, prayer and a Bible message from the pastor. All are welcome.


Waynesboro Seventh-day Adventist is hosting a Financial Peace Seminar as a service to the community. Classes are held every Sunday, through June 1, at 3 p.m.

Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1904 Mt. Vernon St., Waynesboro, Dr. Jonathon Lovelady — The Red Door contemporary service is at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel. Blended service is at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Dr. Lovelady will deliver the message “Growing Better Relationships: Fruit 1,” based on the Bible text Galatians 5:22-26.


Sunday school classes, for children and adults, are held at 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. to accommodate persons attending both worship services.


TLC (high school fellowship) will be held at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend the noontime lunch at Purple Foot on Monday.


The softball team will be playing two games this week: Monday, May 5, at 6 p.m. at North Park and Thursday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at North Park.

Westwood Baptist Church, 2124 Davis Road, Waynesboro – The church will host a Community Fellowship Day on May 17 from noon-3 p.m. Activities will include pony rides, food, games and music – all of which are free.


 


The Community Bible Study announces their newest study. The title of the six-week study is “Fully Alive: Step into a life of Freedom and Fullness in Christ,” with James Robison and Beth Moore.


The study will take place Thursdays, concluding May 22, from 9-11:30 a.m. at Fishersville Baptist Church. The cost is $5 and includes a workbook and childcare. Shiloh Baptist Church will hold a May Friendship Day service today. The theme will be “God’s Wisdom Inspires Hospitality,” written by Pauline Robertson and Joan Brown, members of the Celebration Committee.


All are invited to come and plant a seed of hospitality and reap a bouquet of friendship. The Christian Women Ministry will provide special music. Fellowship is at 10 a.m. Worship is at 10:30 a.m. The event will be sponsored by Waynesboro Church Women United. All are welcome.


 


Waynesboro Community Bible Study is offering a Precept Upon Precept Bible Study on Revelation Chapters 1-3 beginning May 15. This non-denominational study, written by internationally known Bible teacher, Kay Arthur, is open to men and women of all ages. A morning study meets from 9-11 a.m. at the Fishersville Baptist Church located on Route 250 (Jefferson Highway), and on-site childcare is available. An evening study meets from 7-9 p.m. at the Church on the Hill located near the intersection of Interstate 64 and Tinkling Springs Road. No child care is available for the evening study. Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at 500 South Wayne Avenue in Waynesboro announces it has recently redesigned and improved its Web site. The purpose of the new design was to bring focus to the church’s new mission statement, “Growing in  Christ, Deeper Roots Expanded Reach.” The Web site is located at http://gracewaynesboro.org/. The work was completed by Hurst Web Design Company of Edinburg. Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church started in 1893 and has grown. The congregation membership now exceeds 500. There will be a planning meeting for the Disciple’s Kitchen Thursday at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Second Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro. The Fellowship Hall entrance is located at the back of the church off Commerce Avenue.


All coordinators of the teams currently serving the kitchen and others in the community who are interested in participating or learning more about this program are invited to attend. Any current participants who are not currently serving as a coordinator are also invited.


If you are a coordinator of a team and will not be able to attend, please have one or more of your team members attend in your place. Bring any concerns and/or suggestions you may want to share with the group.


For first time attendees, we welcome you and ask that you bring with you any questions you may have regarding the program. A brief overview of the program will be presented.

The Oak Grove Baptist Church Restoration Ministries will be honoring their First Lady, Gwendolyn Darnice Payne starting Saturday at 6:30 p.m., with a dinner and show in the church fellowship hall. They will have dance, mime, spoken word, song and comedy. There is no cost for the dinner. Just come and enjoy and fellowship with the congregation.
