Basic United Methodist Church, 489 N. Winchester Ave., corner of Delphine and Fifth Street, Waynesboro, the Rev. Don Gibson — The children’s choir will meet at 9:30 a.m. Church school begins at 9:45 a.m.
The Sunday morning worship service will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Don Gibson will deliver a message based on the Bible text John 7:37-38 and Ephesians 5:8-14.
An Hispanic worship service will be held at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the United Methodist Youth Fellowship will meet.
Monday through Thursday, tutoring will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. On Monday, at 6 p.m., the church will hold a Mother-Daughter Banquet. Tuesday, Hispanic prayer time is at 5:30 p.m., prayer time is at 6 p.m. Choir practice and adult ESL are at 7 p.m.  On Thursday, at 6:30 p.m., the men’s club will have a supper meeting. On Saturday, at 6:30 p.m., Soul Journey snack and fellowship time will take place. At 7 p.m., Soul Journey praise and worship time will begin.

Bethany Lutheran Church, 100 Maple Ave., Waynesboro, Pastor Timothy Bohlmann — Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m., allowing children and adults to participate together in an opening and then break into groups based on age for further Bible study and activities. Traditional worship is at 8:30 a.m. and contemporary worship is at 11 a.m. Nursery services will be available all morning. Other ministry areas include Christ Care Small Group ministry, music ministry, with handbells and choir, and a senior ministry, which meets each Wednesday at 10 a.m. for Bible study. Calvary Baptist Church, 68 Benz Road, Waynesboro, Pastor W.T. Cole and Associate Pastor Joey Locklear – Sunday school classes begin at 9:45 a.m., with an 11 a.m. worship service led by Pastor Cole. Children’s church will be provided during the morning service. An evening service will begin at 6 p.m., led by Associate Pastor Locklear. Nursery care will be available during both services.

Central Baptist Church, 261 Bookerdale Road, Waynesboro – The church will hold revival services Sunday through Wednesday, with Evangelist Dewey Whitfield of Winston Salem, N.C. Community Baptist Church, 106 Stagecoach Rd., Mint Spring – The church will celebrate Women’s Day at 3 p.m. on May 18. Guest speaker for the program will be the Reverend Willie Washington of Mt. First Presbyterian Church, 100 East Frederick St., Staunton, Dr. Richard S. Dietrich — Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. Worship will begin at 11 a.m. The Reverend Ellen Dozier, missionary to Guatemala, will deliver the message. Bible study is at 10:30 a.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
Bible study will take place on Wednesday with Dr. Richard Dietrich. The study will be based on Bible text Genesis 1:1-2:4a. Morning study will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the chapel. Evening study will take place in the Potter Building from 6:45-7:45 p.m. Vacation Bible School will take place June 22-26 from 5:45-8 p.m.

First Presbyterian Church, 11th Street and Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, the Rev. Glen Holman — A service will begin at 8:30 a.m., with communion served. Praise and worship is at 9:30 a.m. and traditional worship is at 11 a.m. The Rev. Glen Holman will deliver the message, “Littered with Diamonds,” with 1 Corinthians 12:4-13 serving as the text.
The Sunday school schedule is as follows:
9:30-11 a.m. — ages 3-5.
9:30-10:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. — kindergarten through fifth grade
9:30-10:30 a.m. — sixth to eighth grade.

Fishersville Baptist Church, 1518 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, Pastor John Hamric – Sunday school begins at 9:40 a.m., for all ages. Sunday services will be held at 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Summer hours will be in effect from June 1 to August 31 and will be as follows: Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. Worship services will be at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
The following will take place on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.: Adult Bible study, TeamKid (ages 3 through the fifth grade) and Set Apart Youth. Choir rehearsal begins at 7:30 p.m.

Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church, 688 Highland Ave., Waynesboro – The church will host its Second Sunday Forum on May 18 at 7 p.m. The topic will be “Services for the Aging,” presented by the Valley Program for Aging Services. This is a no-cost lecture, however, free-will donations are accepted to cover the lecturer’s expenses. Meeting time is 7-8 p.m., with a short question and answer period to follow.

Main Street United Methodist Church, 601 West Main St., Waynesboro, Pastor Todd Schlechty — Sunday school meets at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays. Contemporary worship service is at 8:30 a.m., with a traditional service taking place at 11 a.m. A children’s worship service will also begin at 11 a.m.
The sermon for this Sunday will be “An Event to be Remembered,” delivered by the Reverend Bill Mayton. The message will be based on the Bible text, John 2:1-11. Discipleship small groups will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Morningstar Baptist Church, 375 Mine Branch Road, Crimora, Pastor Joseph Walker – The Rev. John Toliver Jr. will be speaking at Morning Star Baptist Church on Sunday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Toliver is the associate pastor at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Waynesboro. Everyone is welcome.

Mountain View Church of Afton – The Sunday school class will sponsor a fellowship breakfast on Sunday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. The menu will consist of sausage biscuits, scrambled eggs, ham, mixed fruit, donuts, coffee and orange juice. The guest speaker for the 11 a.m. morning service will be the Rev. Larry Strickler of Staunton. He ministers in music, song and the Word. The public is welcome.

Mt. Woodland Baptist Church, Greenfield – The 48th Annual Mother’s Day worship service and program will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. The sermon will be delivered by the pastor, the Rev. Loretta W. Wyant. The program, presented by members and friends, will follow the sermon. Anyone may bring non-perishable food items (canned or boxed) for the community food pantry.

Oak Grove Baptist Church, 223 Oak Grove Church Road, Waynesboro – Oak Grove Baptist Church Restoration Ministries will be honoring Mother’s Day on Sunday during the morning worship service starting at 10:50 a.m. There will be a special slide show presentation. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers!

Second Presbyterian Church, 133 N. Delphine Ave., Waynesboro, The Rev. Dr. John L. McDonald — Sunday school classes meet from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. This Sunday, the pre-school and Kids’ Journeys in Faith class will study “Early Life of Moses.” The Thoughtful Sunday school class will study faith issues.
This Sunday is the Day of Pentecost (wear red). It is also Mother’s Day.

On Thursday, Disciples’ Kitchen will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., with Waynesboro First Aid Auxiliary serving.

Meals on Wheels will span the month of May. On the third Wednesday of each month, the food pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon. On the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, Mary Baker Quilters will meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Disciples’ Kitchen is held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Shiloh Baptist Church, 234 Shiloh Ave., Waynesboro, the Rev. Warne B. Dawkins – Youth Ministry leaders are having a fundraiser called The Footprint Rally tomorrow at 4 p.m. The music will be rendered by the St. James Mass Choir of Waynesboro and the Beverly Manor Youth Choir. St. James Baptist Church, 1094 Albemarle Ave., Pastor A.T. Crawley – The church will host a one night Youth Revival on May 16 beginning at 6 p.m., with a cookout. The service will start at 7 p.m. The speaker for the service will be Jonathan Z. Queen, a native of Harrisburg, Pa., and a gifted playwright and director. As cofounder of New Mindz Inc., Queen established the (S.A.N.E.) Setting A New Example, which serves to educate individuals and organizations about the power of change and the benefits of effective communication. Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church, 30 Tinkling Spring Drive, Fishersville – Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m. Worship is at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Nursery care is provided for both services and Sunday school. Waynesboro Covenant Church, 1215 12th Street, Waynesboro, Pastor Keith Harris – This Sunday, the congregation will meet at the new location in the upper room of First Presbyterian Church. The service will begin at 11 a.m.
The pastor will deliver the message, “A Mother’s Legacy,” from the Bible text Acts 12. There is something to be said here of heritage, legacy, birthright and inheritance. The congregation will celebrate mothers as they reflect on the impact heritage can produce.

Waynesboro Free Methodist Church, corner of Ivy Street and Hopeman Parkway, Pastor David Kurtz — Waynesboro Free Methodist Church invites you to fellowship this Sunday morning.
Sunday school classes, for all ages, begin at 9:30 a.m. The worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. with contemporary worship music, hymns and a dynamic message by Pastor David Kurtz.
A staffed nursery for babies and a Mothers’ Room are available for small children where mothers can see and hear the service.
Junior church, “Discovery Road,” is available for children from 4 years old through the fifth grade.
At 7 p.m., on Tuesday, is junior teens’ night.
At 7 p.m., on Wednesday, is kids’ time. An adult prayer meeting will also take place.

Waynesboro Grace Lutheran Church – The church will host a fundraising event on May 17 at 8 a.m. Funds raised will go to help fund travel expenses for the ELCA National Youth Gathering in New Orleans next summer. A group of 10-18 local youth and adults plan to attend. We have a large quantity and variety of items donated from members and from an estate.
To get to Waynesboro Grace Lutheran Church, head south on Route 340. The sale is at the white garage on the right, just south of the Ladd Road stoplight.

Waynesboro Mennonite Church, 1801 Monroe St., Waynesboro, Pastor Howard Miller — Sunday school classes, for all ages, are at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning worship service is at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Miller will deliver the message, “Spring Training: Part II,” from the Bible text I Peter 3:13-22.
On Tuesday at 7 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets. Wednesday evening classes, for all ages, begin at 7 p.m.
During the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday May 18, Pastor William Washington, founder and director of The Bridge Ministry will speak. The Bridge Ministry is a residential program for men struggling with life-controlling issues. There will be special music by the Bridge Choir.

Waynesboro Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1700 Lyndhurst Road, Waynesboro, Pastor Will Johns — This Saturday, Sabbath school is at 9:30 a.m., with Bible study classes geared specifically for children from birth through age 18. There are also several adult classes available, which are currently studying the topic of the wonder of Jesus.
The main worship service is at 10:50 a.m. and includes time for singing, prayer and a Bible message from the pastor. All are welcome.
Waynesboro Seventh-day Adventist is hosting a Financial Peace Seminar as a service to the community. Classes are held every Sunday, through June 1, at 3 p.m.

Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1904 Mt. Vernon St., Waynesboro, Dr. Jonathon Lovelady — This Sunday will be Confirmation Sunday.
The Red Door contemporary service is at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel. Blended service is at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Dr. Lovelady will deliver the message “Growing Better Relationships: Fruit 2,” based on the Bible text Galatians 5:22-26.
Sunday school classes, for children and adults, are held at 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. to accommodate persons attending both worship services.

Westwood Baptist Church, 2124 Davis Road, Waynesboro – The church will host a Community Fellowship Day on May 17 from noon-3 p.m. Activities will include pony rides, food, games and music – all of which are free.

Powerhouse Faith Ministries will present the Crawford Brothers from Staunton on Sunday at 3 p.m. The event will be a pre-anniversary celebration for Pastor Sylvia Spears. Beverly Manor will be hosting their annual Senior Citizens Day Program on May 18 at 11 a.m. The service will be lead under the direction of Pastor James McIntosh. Lunch will be served following the morning service. All senior citizens will be honored with a special recognition of two faithful seniors. Everyone is invited to worship and fellowship.

The Community Bible Study announces their newest study. The title of the six-week study is “Fully Alive: Step into a life of Freedom and Fullness in Christ,” with James Robison and Beth Moore.
The study will take place Thursdays, concluding May 22, from 9-11:30 a.m. at Fishersville Baptist Church. The cost is $5 and includes a workbook and childcare. Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at 500 South Wayne Avenue in Waynesboro announces it has recently redesigned and improved its Web site. The purpose of the new design was to bring focus to the church’s new mission statement, “Growing in Christ, Deeper Roots Expanded Reach.” The Web site is located at http://gracewaynesboro.org/. The work was completed by Hurst Web Design Company of Edinburg. Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church started in 1893 and has grown. The congregation membership now exceeds 500. Take advantage of two opportunities to hear the SIFA African Children’s Choir, a group of children chosen to come to the United States on their first U.S. tour. The word SIFA is Swahili for praise and stands for the praise these children wish to bring to God for giving them the opportunity to be a small part of the solution of bringing hope to their suffering country.
On May 17 at 7 p.m., there will be a time to interact with the children and hear them sing at the Solid Rock Café in Waynesboro.
Then, on May 18, SIFA will perform at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran. The concert is open to the public and a love offering will be collected. Thrivent will be matching $1 for every $1.50 that is collected for this community outreach event.

Second Presbyterian Church will host a chicken barbecue featuring John Boy’s Chicken on May 24 in the church parking lot. Cost for food will be $4 for a half and $5 for dinner. Proceeds go to weekday religious education. Call 943-3211 for pre-orders. Starting at 8 a.m., the barbecue will also include a bake sale, book sale and white elephant sale. The church is located at 133 N. Delphine Ave. in Waynesboro.

Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren will host the First Annual Benefit Concert for the Faith Primary School on May 31. Special guests will include Susan and Debbie Sandridge of “Only Grace,” providing music from 4-6 p.m. From 6-7 p.m., Global Puppet Ministries will present a puppet show. Starting at 7 p.m., Glen Shelton and Smokey Wilson; and the Dan Keeton Quartet (formerly of the Dixie Melody Boys) will perform. Food and drinks will be available. Other activities will include crafts and face painting. T-shirts and CDs will also be available.
Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren is located at 19 Brown’s Lane in Waynesboro. Tickets will be available at the Faith Primary School, Jackie B’s in Waynesboro, Mane Effect Hair Salon in Staunton and Blessings Christian Book Store in Harrisonburg.

On Sunday, September 28, the congregation of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church will welcome Franklin Graham, CEO and president of Samaritan’s Purse and the son of the Rev. Billy Graham. While at the historic Fishersville church, Graham will be able to visit the gravestone of his great-great-great-great grandfather, the Rev. John McCue, who served as the church’s third minister from 1791 until his death in 1818.
“Our church is thrilled to have this historic connection to such a wonderful family. We look forward to having Franklin Graham lead us in the worship of our God on September 28 as we celebrate what God has done and is doing in the life of Tinkling Spring,” said Tinkling Spring pastor, the Rev. Jason Whitener.
Graham is expected to deliver the message during the 11 a.m. worship service. Plans are under way to provide room for visitors at Tinkling Spring during the service. “We will make every effort to welcome visitors from our community to worship on the 28th. It is always a joy to have guests with us, any time they’re able to come!” Whitener said.
