City manager Doug Walker will square off against Waynesboro City Schools superintendent Robin Crowder. Jeff Fife, of the Waynesboro YMCA, will face off against Dwayne Moore of the Boys and Girls Club.

Who will be the victors in the battle for Waynesboro's taste buds-

The curious - and hungry - can find out tonight who is the best celebrity chef in Waynesboro at the Eighth Annual Taste of Town at Waynesboro High School from 6-8 p.m.

The event, which will benefit Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc., will feature two celebrity chef challenges - Crowder vs. Walker and Fife vs. Moore - as well as appearances by Chief of Police Doug Davis and Dana Quillen of WDDI, plus the best offerings from a variety of Waynesboro eateries, music and door prizes. The News Virginian is co-sponsoring the event.

"The challenges within the city are new and exciting this year," said Chris Plumley of Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc. "The will be cooking off against each other to prove who is the best within the city government and the nonprofits."

Restaurants appearing at the event will include Ballagio's Ice Cream and Crepes, serving chili; Brickbrother's NY Deli, serving a full selection of sandwiches and other delights; Stone Soup Books and Caf-, serving soup and desserts; Smoothie King with smoothies; South River Grill and Wine Shop, with a wide selection of dishes from the restaurant's menu; and Mi Rancho, offering a "secret" dish. 250 Central will serve coffee, dessert and a full array of other goodies.

"We're encouraging restaurants to pitch their best dishes," Plumley said.

Waynesboro Florist will give away six centerpieces as door prizes over the course of the evening and Valley Music Academy will provide music. VMA ensembles slated to perform include the Valley Voices children's choir, under the direction of Mary McDow Smith, and the Student Jazz Combo, under the direction of Robert Harrold. Taste of Town will be the debut performance for the Jazz Combo.

Tickets for Taste of Town are available during the day at the WDDI office at 301 Main Street and at the door during the event. Tickets are $15 for adults and $6.50 for children over 6. Children under six are free.

"This is a chance to get together to meet local restaurants and celebrities and see what their talents are in the kitchen," Plumley said. "It's going to be fun to see Waynesboro come together."
