Gabby Haze, a local group, will have a benefit concert for PACE and their first CD release party at Prince Michel winery, 154 Winery Lane, Leon, approximately 35 minutes north of Charlottesville on Rt. 29, on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Admission will be $5. All proceeds from the concert and CD sales at this event will be donated to the Pat Magnone Scholarship fund of PACE center for girls offering education, counseling, training and advocacy.

Opening the benefit will be Mama Jess and the Moonrise, a valley band that does fiddle tunes, some bluegrass and some folk music.

Prince Michel wines, non-alcoholic beverages and various foods will be available for purchase at the benefit.

Gabby Haze's debut CD, available for purchase at the benefit, offers 12 originals written by Dave Magnone, Dan Layman and Bill Leusting and will sell for $10. The CD will also be available at other gigs and at Plan 9 in Harrisonburg.

"We plan to dazzle and entertain," said Dan Layman. "This CD is named 'Living Room Music' and is considered folk-rock. Every song is a little bit different. There is one with a harmonica, one with saxophone. Just a good mix."

The CD was produced by JT Thorton, Dave Magnone and Dan Layman and recorded and mixed at the Troll In The Hole Studios in Waynesboro. The CD was also engineered by Thornton.

"These are all originals," Layman said. "A member's son, who lives in New Jersey, played lead guitar and its all acoustic. We are real happy with the sound. There is one selection with a flute. There is just a wide variety of songs. There is a little country and some rock."

The folk-rock band is based in the Shenandoah Valley and consists of Dave Magnone on guitar and vocals; Dan Layman on autoharp and vocals; Jess Layman-Herr on guitar and vocals; J. Herr on mandolin; Carol Baily on vocals, sax and flute; Bill Yetzer on harmonica; Bill Bird on bass; and Peg Layman as sound engineer.

The group also plays Beatles, John Prine, the Rolling Stones, the Band, Arlo Guthrie, Boy Dylan and a few other artists.

Special guests on the CD include Brian Magnone (lead guitar) and Jimmy King (bass).

"This CD is dedicated to four very special people: Patti Magnone, Marsha New, Peggy Layman and Warren R. Jones," said Layman.

Gabby Haze will also be playing July 21 at Sidelines Cafe in Waynesboro from 8 until 10:30 p.m.
