Moss will be at her home, the Barn, on April 20-22 to meet her collectors and personalize prints from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Prints of the painting, titled "Springtime at Meems," will be released at the event.
Meems Bottom Bridge is an image popular among collectors. Moss has painted it in winter and autumn, but this is the first time she has rendered it in spring.
Meems Bottom Bridge is located in Mount Jackson. The bridge, constructed by Franklin Wissler between 1892 and 1893, provided access to his apple orchards and farm. Wissler paid particular attention to the details in the bridge, making certain it had proper water drainage and adding a roof for protection. Upon his death, the bridge went to the Highway Department with the stipulation the state assume responsibility for its maintenance. The bridge, placed in the National Historic Register in April of 1975, was destroyed by vandals in 1976. After salvaging the original timbers, the bridge was restored. Meem Bottom Bridge extends 191 feet in a single span supported by a Burr Arch, a large arch with multiple kingpost trusses. Named for the Meems family that owned the Strathmore Estate west on the Shenandoah river, it is the longest remaining covered bridge in Virginia.
Attendees may bring two previously purchased Moss prints or paintings to the Barn for signing. In addition, all prints or paintings that are purchased at the museum shop during the Open House can be personalized. Admission is free. A free black and white print will be given for purchases over $100 during the show.
