Events
The Frontier Culture Museum will host a Summer Education Program for ages 9-13.

Waynesboro Farmer’s Market is today at the Pavilion from 3-7 p.m. in downtown Waynesboro and will run every Wednesday through October.
At the market, there will be a children’s activity, as well as music. For more information, look on the Web site, http://www.waynesborodowntown.org.

Humpback Rock’s Mountain Farm, located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 5.8, will host a junior ranger workday every Wednesday. For more information, call 943-4716.

Music
Bluegrass in the Park will be held at 8 p.m. at the Gypsy Hill Bandstand. Tonight’s performer is the Bluegrass Brothers. This is a free event.

Mossy Creek, in Fishersville, hosts karaoke from 8:30-11:30 p.m. with Dave McCormick. No cover.

Sorrels Lounge at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel will feature live acoustic music — a little folk, a little blues, a little of everything — from 7-10 p.m. There is no cover charge.

South River Grill will host music by Jimmy O at 7:30 p.m.

Salsa lessons and practice ballroom dance will continue each Thursday at Fairfax Hall, located at 1101 Reservoir St. in Waynesboro. Lessons are taught by instructors of Shergold Studios for $5 per person from 7-8 p.m. The practice dance follows from 8-9:30 p.m. A $2 donation is requested. All are welcome. Captain Sams will host the Allstars from 8-10:30 p.m. $3 cover. Guest hosts include Jeremy Fretwell of Deep Blue Jones, Alex Arbough of Sundried Opossum, blues artist Chris Woodson and folk artist Lisa Miller. Bring your gear.

Sidelines Café will host an acoustic show tonight.

Staunton’s 21st annual Summer 2008 Jazz in the Park will kick off tonight at 8 p.m. at Gypsy Hill Park. Performing tonight is The Young Razzcals Jazz Project. Concessions will be available. The event is free and will be held rain or shine. Jazz in the Park will be held every Thursday at 8 p.m. through Aug. 28.
Theater
The Hamner Theater will present an additional performance of the Hamner Theater production of “Poe & All That Jazz,” at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the show will be a suggested donation of $10.
Following this final local performance, the show will head to Washington, D.C., where it will be staged during the 2008 Capital Fringe Festival from July 12-20.

The Keezle-Tones, a high-energy old-time string band from Keezletown will entertain during Stone Soup’s Friday evening dining experience, from 6-8:30 p.m. There is no cover charge for this event. The 3rd Annual Montgomery Hall Park Lawn Party will be held from noon to 8:30 p.m. Come early and stay late! Bring your picnic basket and join in the celebration of 188 years of Montgomery Hall! The event provides activities and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Traditional Lawn Party adult activities like croquet and horseshoes will be available, as well as an extensive selection of fun for children. Enjoy exhibits chronicling Montgomery Hall’s unique and storied history. This event is free and the entire Staunton community is invited to attend this spectacular gathering of musical entertainment, great foods and pleasant leisure activities.

Historic Staunton Foundation volunteers will guide a free walking tour every Saturday, from May through October, at 10 a.m. Discover historic Staunton, the Queen City of the Shenandoah Valley. The tours take participants through four of Staunton’s five historic districts and describe the town’s history and its beautifully-restored architecture.
The tours begin at the Emily Smith House porch, at the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library on North Coalter Street, and end at the Welcome Center at the New Street parking garage. Tours last about 2 hours. This is a wonderful opportunity for visitors and residents to discover the history and beauty of downtown Staunton.

The Hamner Theater will hold a Scene Study class from 4-7 p.m. with Mary Coy. Through improv games, acting exercises and simple play, you will learn (or review) basic acting skills and learn a lot about yourself in the process. Summer Studio, week-long art classes, begin each Monday for ages 4 through adult. The classes are from 9 a.m. to noon at the Staunton Augusta Art Center, located at 20 S. New St. in Staunton. The Summer of Praise 2008 Free Concert Series will continue. The event will feature Covenant, performing driving rock and roll pieces and Dawn Wolcott with acoustic originals. The Summer of Praise 2008 Concert Series will be held at Waynesboro’s Ridgeview Park Amphitheater every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. through August 28.

Praise in the Park will continue at the gazebo at Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton at 7 p.m., through Aug. 26. There will be Vacation Bible School, hosted by First Baptist Church, along with other activities for the children. For more information, call Linden Heights Baptist Church at 886-1138.

A “Classics” book discussion will be held at Stone Soup Books and Café. The Municipal Band of Charlottesville will bring their Annual Summer Concert Series to The Paramount Theater at 8 p.m. The band is one of the oldest continuously operating volunteer community bands in the United States.
The concert is open to the public at no charge, the Band’s gift of music to the City and County, which generously supports it.
General admission seating for the concert will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Lobby doors will open at 7 p.m. Seating will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Paramount Theater will present an outpouring of jazz and funk featuring three of the world’s foremost guitar virtuosos, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten at 8 p.m. In support of their upcoming “Thunder” CD release, the three artists will perform an amazing concert of jazz and funk at its best. With artistry spanning classical, jazz, R&B and pop, Stanley Clarke was the first bassist in history to headline tours and sell out shows world-wide, and single-handedly started the 1970s bass revolution. Highly chameleonic and influential, Marcus Miller has played an integral role in the careers of no less than Miles Davis, Luther Vandross and David Sanborn, astounding music lovers with his masterful, earthy and ever passionate approach to music making. Called the most influential bassist since Jaco Pastorius, composer, arranger, producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Victor Wooten is known as an innovator – whether working solo or as the bassist of supergroup Bela Fleck and The Flecktones.
