A man wanted in South Carolina on sexual assault charges was arrested in Waynesboro this morning, according to police.
Harry Edsel Shaffer, 60, who had been living in Waynesboro, was charged with being a fugitive from justice, wanted in South Carolina on three counts of sexual assault-related charges regarding a minor, according to Sgt. Kelly Walker of the Waynesboro Police Department.
The warrants, Walker said, were fairly recent, though the offense dates “were awhile ago.” The charges originated in Florence, S.C., according to the Det. Kathleen Streett of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest took place during a traffic stop around 9 a.m.
Shaffer was taken to the Middle River Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond until a Sept. 29 extradition hearing.
