Megan Beyer to speak at Blue Ridge graduation

More than 500 awards will be offered at this morning’s Blue Ridge Community College commencement, where the keynote address will be offered by Megan Beyer, a PBS panelist, longtime business reporter and Northern Virginia civic leader.
Today’s awards include degrees, diplomas and certificates.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Weyers Cave campus. The James Madison University Convocation Center is the rain location.
Today’s commencement marks the 40th for Blue Ridge.
Beyer, a member of the Virginia State Board for Community Colleges, also is a member of the national board of Reading is Fundamental and has served on the boards of the Virginia Association for the Prevention of Blindness and the Medical Care for Children Partnership.
She co-chaired with Lynda Johnson Robb “Every Child By Two,’’ a project to immunize children in Virginia.
Beyer is a regular panelist on the PBS program, “To The Contrary.” Since 1984, she has been a reporter for various local and national television news programs including “Nation’s Business Today’’ on ESPN, where she anchored and reported on business issues, and “HealthWeek’’ on PBS.
She received two Emmy nominations and the Virginia Associated Press award for her work at Richmond’s WTVR TV-6. And from 1996 to 2001 she was the anchor for PBS’s The Business Channel, a satellite news service produced by PBS that features bestselling authors and CEOs of Fortune 500 companies.
Beyer’s husband, Don, was Virginia’s lieutenant governor from 1989 to 1997, and ran for governor in 1997.
