Ward 5: Despite morning glitch, polls humming

Staunton’s Ward 5 saw a 15 minute delay to activate machines this morning, but overcame the backlog, Chief Election Offiical Joe Baugher said.

“In that 15-minute time, we had 150 people waiting out here, at least,“ Baugher said.

More than 1,000 people, which is more than half of registered voters in the precinct, voted by 3 p.m. The precinct normally sees a 20 to 30 percent turnout, Baugher said.
