A 50-year-old man riding a moped was fatally injured late Friday night in a collision with a Ford minivan at the intersection of North Delphine Avenue and 6th Street.
Waynesboro police said James Michael Baber, 50, of Waynesboro, suffered a severe head injury in the collision and died around 2:35 a.m. Saturday at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Baber turned left while riding a 2004 Yamaha moped onto North Delphine Avenue heading south from 6th Street around 10 p.m. Friday.
He then swerved into oncoming traffic. Police said Baber was not wearing a helmet of any type and said it is not known if he was drinking.
The driver of the minivan was Nora Quezada, 25, of Waynesboro. Neither Quezada nor the two children who were passengers in the minivan were injured.
Police said Quezada was charged with operating with a suspended driver’s license.
No other traffic charges are expected.
