Waynesboro police on Friday arrested two local men on charges they stole more than $900 in cigarettes, cigars, lighters, beer and food from the Sunoco on East Main Street.
At about noon, police apprehended Brandon S. Via, 19, and Thomas Murphree, 20, at Via’s home on the 100 block of North Winchester Avenue.
Police responded to a call at the convenience store at 1175 E. Main St. nearly nine hours earlier, finding glass on the front door broken and an alarm sounding, Sgt. Kelly Walker said. The business owner said a rock used to hold a trailer in place was missing and may have been used to break the window, Walker said.
Police detained another man but did not press charges. Additional charges are likely, Walker said.
Most of the stolen items were retrieved at Via’s home, Walker said.
