Man reported for tire theft

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office reported the Thursday morning arrest of a 44-year-old Verona man who allegedly took a Bridgestone tire from a residence on the 700 block of Balsley Road in Staunton.
Douglas Rankin faces one charge of petit larceny and one charge of obstructing justice.
Deputies responded to a call before 9 a.m. from the victim, who watched a dump truck leave his property with the tire, valued at $135. Police questioned an uncooperative Rankin at Central Tire Corporation on Lee Highway in Verona before arresting him, the sheriff’s office reported.
Rankin is free on bond.
