Thief makes off with $1,000 in coins

A 56-year-old Spottswood man reported the theft yesterday of three jars filled with $1,000 in change from his home on the 500 block of Almo Chapel Road, police said.
The thief apparently gained entry to the residence around 6:00 p.m. by breaking through a sliding glass door, then grabbed the jars and fled while the victim looked on, police said.
No arrests have been made, and the incident is under investigation, police said.
