Fort Defiance High School took first-place honors at the Virginia Envirothon earlier this week at James Madison Universty.
The team from Fort Defiance will now travel to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz. in July to compete in the Canon Envirothon.
An envirothon features five “in-the-field” test stations dealing with soils, wildlife, aquatics, forestry and a current environmental issue. Teams answer questions in both written and hands-on formats.
During an oral presentation, teams propose a management solutions related to the current environmental issue to a panel of judges consisting of industry and natural resource professionals.
