Bell, Metz earn Staunton re-election

Incumbent Staunton City Councilmen Dickie Bell and Dave Metz earned re-election Tuesday, while candidates Ophie Kier and Andrea Oakes took victories.
Kier, a member of the Staunton School Board, led all candidates with 2,347 votes. Bell followed with 2,081 and Metz with 1,832.
Oakes held off candidate Bob Campbell narrowly for the fourth and final council seat available Tuesday. She polled 1,582 votes to Campbell’s 1,537.
In the race for three Staunton School Board seats, candidates George Ballew, Sara Crenshaw and Daniel Stuhlsatz took victories.
Crenshaw, who previously served on the school board, garnered 1,851 votes while Ballew had 1,686 and Stuhlsatz 1,412.
Ron Ramsey, the lone incumbent running for re-election, appeared to have lost in his bid as a write-in candidate. There were only 698 write-in votes.
