The Waynesboro City Council will hold a budget work session Thursday, May 22 to consider adopting a tax rate ordinance and introduce a proposed budget ordinance for fiscal year 2009.
The council agreed Monday on nearly $600,000 worth of cuts in order to balance the city’s budget at $39.4 million, staying with the current 70-cent real estate tax rate.
The new fiscal year begins July 1 and extends to June 30, 2009.
The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. in the council chambers of the Charles T. Yancey Municipal Building at 503 West Main Street.
