The Waynesboro City Council could name an interim city manager tonight after discussing the issue in a closed session during its 6 p.m. meeting, the leader of the panel’s conservative bloc said.
Councilman Frank Lucente said he asked that the topic be added to items to be discussed in private. The council also is expected to discuss evaluations of employees, including the clerk of council, assessor, city attorney and City Manager Doug Walker, who last week announced his resignation effective June 30.
The session could lead to the naming of an interim city manager. “I think that’s a possibility, but I have no idea,” said Councilwoman Lorie Smith, a member of a faction opposed to Lucente.
