The Waynesboro City Council will hold a budget work session this evening at 6 p.m. in the council chambers of the Charles T. Yancey Municipal Building.
The council will discuss the following fiscal 2009 budgets:

· Registrar ($97,668 recommended; 2.3 percent increase)
· Health, Welfare and Social Services ($2,035,297; 8.6 percent increase)
· Economic Development ($95,293; 3.7 percent decrease)
· EDA ($1,037,820; 8,001.6 percent increase)
· Tourism ($75,362; 0.7 percent decrease)
· Rockfish Gap TIC ($23,870; 4.3 percent increase)
· Library Services ($978,847; 7.3 percent decrease)
· Correction and Detention ($949,927; 21.8 percent decrease)
· Sheriffs Department ($417,344; 9.9 percent increase)
· Fire Department ($2,368,761; 7.7 percent increase)
· Emergency Management ($996,000; 3 percent increase)

The dramatic increase to the Economic Development Authority is for the economic development incentive rebate to the Waynesboro Town Center. The overall proposed city budget is about $41 million.
The council will also consider holding a closed meeting to discuss appointing an interim City Attorney. The council has thus far held budget work sessions to discuss budgets for the school division, police department and the public works department.
