In a Weyers Cave news conference replete with colorful charts and graphs, U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke, called for an end to runaway federal spending that has produced a $9 trillion deficit. To do so, he says, Congress will have to eliminate earmarks. We offer our Sixth District congressman our hearty backing in his effort. We can't help but notice, however, that Goodlatte himself was thumped by the Heritage Foundation for the $300,000 he helped secure for the Wayne Theatre. On the subject of federal spending, has anyone on Goodlatte's side of the aisle bothered to discuss this subject with the Republican in the White House- Recall that before the man from Crawford moseyed into town, the federal budget was in the black by $125 billion. On the subject of federal spending, Republicans might consider this left-of-center admonishment: True healing begins within.
