Volunteer firefighters offer thanks
The Dooms Volunteer Fire Company would like to thank our friends and neighbors for supporting our ongoing fund drive. We have been very pleased with the response we have received from the letters we sent to the residents of our first-due response area.
While we appreciate the financial support, and hope it will continue, there are other ways to support your local fire company. First and foremost, we are always looking for good volunteer firefighters. No experience is necessary and we provide your training and equipment. If running toward a burning building, rather than away from one, doesn't appeal to you, we need your help in other areas as well.
Our annual carnival, chicken barbecue fundraisers, building and equipment maintenance projects and many other needs all depend on people like you volunteering their time.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at the Dooms Volunteer Fire Company. Our phone number is (540) 943-0679. Contributions should be mailed to P.O. Box 836, Waynesboro, VA 22980. Our firehouse is located at 26 Sandy Ridge Road just off Route 340, north of Waynesboro. Please feel free to stop in to see our facility and speak with us in person.

'Valley Hoopsters' scored big for the community
It is heartwarming to experience the support received from the community for our recent Harlem Wizards basketball game. We had a fabulous "Valley Hoopsters" team under the direction of coach Paul Hatcher, and excellent referees, announcers and scorekeepers.
The community supported us by providing ticket outlets, overnight accommodations for the Wizards, advertising for the game and attending in great numbers. Perhaps the most heartwarming was to see a gym filled with families, groups of youths, teachers and community supporters laughing and enjoying a fun-filled evening. A great time was had by all.
Proceeds from the game will fund two all-night events that offer Wilson students and their guests an opportunity to attend a safe alcohol- and drug-free party after the prom and after graduation. Without the support of our community, we could not have had such a successful event. Thanks to all for your support!
