Practice what is preached

This is about Don Imus saying the terrible words he said about the girls from the Rutgers basketball team. It was a terrible thing, but why do we need Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to put their hate into it. Rosie O'Donnell can say things to try to rip apart the very soul of what this country stands for. Then people only said she is exercising her free speech. B.S.

Al and Jessie are supposed to be ministers. Where is their forgiveness- I love all people, and Don Imus has apologized to the girls; lets forgive him and at least shut Al and Jesse up, and stop the hate they preach

The show was spectacular

Please allow me to express heartfelt gratitude to the Waynesboro Choral Society for one of the most inspirational programs I have had the privilege of attending locally. "How Great Thou Art" far exceeded my expectation. It was exceptionally uplifting (and a very generous gift to this community).

Thank you, Don Coffey, for your many years of dedication, and to each and every one of the performers. You are appreciated very much.

A lack of funds and support

Let's see, we did not have the funds to complete the Kate Collins project to the original plan, so we had to modify it to save money. We did not have the funds to repair our water and sewer system so we had to raise rates. We do not have the funds to handle the storm water run-off problems that cause flooding in certain sections of the city. We do not have the funds to give our teachers, police officers or our public works department the raises they deserve. We do not even have funds to build and man another fire department that is needed.
We did not even have $4,000 to donate to the Dooms Fire Department that provides service to certain parts of the city. I could go on and on with what we do not have.

Our city has such pressing needs that we had our property taxes raised 40 percent to try and fund them. However, at the snap of a finger, our City Council can come up with a million dollars to donate to the Wayne Theater. Do not tell me that this is what the people of the city wanted as a reflection of the last election. This was not even debated during the last election.

Mr. Reynolds, Mrs. Dowdy, Mrs. Smith and their friends may feel this is a pressing need for the city. However, the majority of the people in the city would probably disagree and would rather their money be spent on more pressing needs.

I urge everyone to contact the council members and let them know how you feel. You can contact them at the following numbers. Mr. Reynolds 942-3431; Mrs. Dowdy 943-9133; Mrs. Smith 943-9835, Mr. Williams 942-3471 and Mr. Lucent 949-6186.
