Put Wayne on the ballot

I agree with Paul [Antonoplos] and Cherie [Russell] who called for a vote on the Wayne Theatre funding in Friday's (May 11) mail call. Put the funding on the next ballot for the people to vote on. After all, it is our money.

Thanks to local Lowe's Heroes

Daily Living Center Inc., the adult day care program serving Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta County, wants to thank Lowe's of Staunton for their wonderful generosity.

Lowe's has a wonderful program called Lowe's Heroes, who go out and help others in the community. We are very fortunate to have them come and build some wonderful closets for our kitchen.

Claudia Resnick, manager, should be very proud of her employees and how much they do to help others. The team of John Brewster, Candice Lambert, Shane Knaus, Jen Hite, Sarah Rockwell, Biagio Schiano, Steve Layman and Stan Anderson was lead by two wonderful people, Christy Southers and Chris Hanger.

What a team they made and what a wonderful difference they made for us. We are so proud to have had the opportunity to know these wonderful individuals and we wanted everyone to be proud of Lowe's and what they do for the community.

Thank you, Lowe's, for a job well done.

Remember the Golden Rule

An open letter to Waynesboro City Council and citizens of our town:

It is our most basic duty as human beings to aid all the folks and creatures, wherever and whenever possible, not to impose unjust and unfair burdens and desires. This has been said better than I can - "Do unto others."

Bill Hausrath is a friend of the city

One of my favorite TV programs is the City Council broadcast, which makes it so convenient to get good insight into what is going on in our city. As I watched the Thursday night, May 10, meeting, I heard that someone had implied that a man I have known variously as my neighbor, my landlord, my Realtor, and a friend of the city, expected to profit from his connection with the Wayne Theatre project.

While I differ with him on the wisdom of city funding for the theater, I greatly admire the character and integrity of Bill Hausrath, and am sure such assertions are false. Bill did outstanding work as YMCA Board chair, and his leadership in turning the decaying Fairfax Hall into low-income housing shows his good balance in combining a business venture with saving a city icon. We are fortunate to have a man of his stature who is so willing to give of himself for the general good.
