First off, I would like to congratulate Frank Lucente, Bruce Allen and Tim Williams on their wins in the City Council elections (“Allen keys change,” May 7). I feel that these men will do what is best for the city of Waynesboro and at the same time do what is best for the taxpaying citizens as well.
I know here lately Lucente and Williams have been made to look like troublemakers by not agreeing with the open checkbook policy that the majority on the council has had. I would like to thank them for standing up and fighting for what the majority of voters felt was right. Now I feel that “times are a changing,” and with Allen on the council they can cut out the wasteful spending and get down to what needs to be done for the city.
I would also like to say thank you to former council member Reo Hatfield. It was reported in another local newspaper, come on, The News Virginian, that Hatfield has leased 30 acres at the former Genicom plant to the Augusta Futbol Club. The deal is for 30 years at the astonishing price of $1 per year. This will allow the club to build soccer fields that will be enjoyed by more than 1,000 area youths.

Yea, real changes from progress to the same old do nothing get nothing done council that has plaqued Waynesboro for 30 plus years. You idiots are going to get what you get...nothing!! You know, these people like Hatfield all claim to be so religious, such good Christians, but they belong to anti-Christian cults like the freemasons and always seem to want their name in the paper for their good deeds, well read this: Matthew 6:1-4
1"Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Jesus’ words!
