Greg Bruno is the right candidate for Ward B

A candidate deserving consideration during the May 6 City Council election is Greg Bruno, in Ward B. Greg has recently spent three-and-a-half years on the city Planning Commission and has been a regular attendee at council meetings for about six years. His experience and training as a planner and familiarity with city issues through participation on school and other city committees should ensure a shorter learning curve for him than his competitors.
More importantly, he is not aligned, nor indebted, to any special interest groups. Instead, he’s an independent thinker and articulate, with a focus on what’s best for the city as a whole. He does his homework, then makes decisions based on facts, rather than sticking with preconceived notions regardless of facts presented.
Furthermore, he is interested in working for consensus rather than being a divisive factor that limits or precludes progress. As a local small-business owner, he knows that the city’s operating costs must be kept within taxpayer limits and knows how to stay within a budget.
Focus in this election should be on candidates most likely to protect the quality of life and interests of Waynesboro’s typical resident. Among my own specific interests are: reasonable growth without significant negative effects on existing neighborhoods and roads; maintenance and repair of city plant and equipment that’s adequate to avoid the catch-up mode we’re now in; assurance that new businesses pay their fair share for stormwater runoff, traffic congestion and other negative impacts on the community; and protection of the natural environment and resources including the South River and drinking water sources.
