On Oct. 16, there was a walk for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in Charlottesville. I want to thank everyone who donated money to sponsor my brother, Eddie, and myself in this walk. This was my first experience with this and I was in awe when I saw the turnout and amazed how more than 400 people can get together as strangers and share a common bond.

I chatted with a few people and knew, with what our family has been faced with, we are not alone in this journey. So many positive stories were told and I was touched by one little girl who had a smile that would “light the night.” My brother and I were joined in the walk by my sister, Kelli, and her son, Tavyn. They had been volunteering since 3:30 p.m. and still made the walk with us. I also had a friend, Ann Whorley, who showed up just to walk with me and show her support to our family. My brother had a friend, Tom Shaeffer, who showed his support to us, as well. Again, I would like to thank everyone for their gifts and keeping us in your prayers.

Although our road may be a long haul, we now know we do not have to make this journey alone.
