Don’t care what Southern Valley school you go to or which school’s colors you wear.

When it comes to being a fan of high school football you got to love how Dae’Quan Scott plays the game over at R.E. Lee. Touted as one of the most talented football players to take the gridiron in 2008, Scott did little to dispel that hype in his team’s opener on Friday—scampering his way into the end zone four times against Fort Defiance and keying a 40-18 victory over an overmatched Indians squad that never backed down.

Give Tom Cummings this much—the man that chose to head right into the maelstrom and take over Fort Defiance’s wrestling program after the questionable ousting of Terry Waters decided he was going to say all the right things Monday.

Hours before heading to Fort to meet a concerned and angry Indian wrestling family (and you can’t blame them for being either now can you?) Cummings told sports reporter Corine Gatti that he was going to extend an “olive branch” to Waters.

“Terry has a great feeder program with the Battlefield Wrestling Club. That’s what makes our high school programs and youth a success,” Cummings said. “Maybe, I can offer him assistance, or vice-versa.”

Cavalier fans shouted, “move back the outfield,” or “pitch around that guy, he can hit.”

At Waynesboro High School, boring quotes aren’t the norm. Sure, a few Little Giant helmsmen (and women) keep a copy of the Coackspeak Dictionary on the back of the toilet.

But Steve Issacs will always tell you what’s what. Secrett Stubblefield is, well, Secrett Stubblefield. And baseball coach Jim Critzer—though his tongue is not as Tobasco-laced as it used to be—will still toss some chipotle your way every now and again.

After Thursday’s 10-8 win over Jefferson Forest to lock up a second straight Group AA berth, however, it was a player’s quote that stood out. Stood out so much, in fact, that it never made it into print. It took a few listens, a luxury not afforded on deadline.

FISHERSVILLE — Everything clicked for Goochland in its 6-2 Region B semifinal win over Wilson Memorial on Wednesday.
“It all just fell into place,” Goochland coach Ron Spessard said.
The Bulldogs were able to take control two minutes into the game when forward Luke Gall sent one into the net. The Bulldogs’ fancy footwork enabled them to win a majority of the one-on-one plays, however the Hornets’ defense was missing their key fullback, Kyle Inlow, due to illness.
