R.E. Lee holds off Cougars in finals

STAUNTON — From zero to hero. Four years ago, the Robert E. Lee girls soccer team suffered through a winless season. Yesterday, the squad claimed the Southern Valley District championship with a 3-1 win over rival Stuarts Draft at the Montgomery Hall Park soccer complex. “This is exciting,” Lee coach Andrew Green said. “I am happy for my seniors — both of them — who have been through the hard times: a no-win season, a one-win season and last year we were barely a .500 team.”

R.E. Lee ends Waynesboro’s season

STAUNTON — Robert E. Lee defeated the Little Giants 4-1 on Friday afternoon ending Waynesboro’s season. Lee came back from a goal deficient and netted three more during the last half of a match to reserve a spot against Stuarts Draft next Tuesday in the Southern Valley Tournament. Lee coach Andrew Green said his team had the right motivation against the Giants. It all started at Waynesboro. The Giants defeated Lee at home 5-1 in its first match. That game was pivotal for Lee.
