R.E. Lee tops S. Valley squads
LYNCHBURG — With the Region III girls track and field team championship in the balance, the anchor runners from Brookville, Heritage and Turner Ashby crashed across the finish line simultaneously in Saturday’s meet-ending 1,600-meter relay at Liberty University. Clinging to a two-point lead on Brookville, Pioneers sprinter Amanda Wimbush passed Bees’ distance runner Janel Reeves on the back stretch and barely held off a strong kick from Reeves while TA’s Molly Skidmore skidded across the finish line in first place by a baton’s length.May 16, 2008
Lee boys, Fort girls win Southern Valley track meet
Waynesboro’s Tim Brown, no doubt, earned the nickname “Slick” for his laid-back approach to life. On Friday, at the inaugural Southern Valley District outdoor track and field meet, the stone-faced senior managed to contort his face into a smile and open his eyes wide in excitement. He’s wanted to hit 45 feet on the triple jump for quite some time and in windy and cold conditions at his home track, he nailed it.
