Wilson upset nullified

STRASBURG — Wilson Memorial had the Strasburg High School baseball team just where they wanted them. The Green Hornets had the momentum Tuesday night, taking a two-run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning at First Bank Park. All relief pitcher D.J. Curry needed to do was get three outs and Wilson could advance to the next round of the Region B playoffs and get a home game Wednesday.

Luray stops an upset

HARRISONBURG – Luray won the Shenandoah District championship on Thursday night defeating Wilson Memorial 4-2. “Wilson played a good game,” said Bulldogs coach Steve Griffith. “They defeated Gap 1-0, but both teams were loose, maybe a little to loose. We did better when there was pressure on us.”

Wilson moves on

In Fishersville, Wilson Memorial won its first round game in the Shenandoah District baseball tournament 6-4 against Stonewall jackson and earned a second round date with Buffalo Gap.

Wilson drops Page

FISHERSVILLE – Wilson Memorial’s rally in the fifth inning secured a 5-4 win over Page County on Wednesday. The Hornet’s Alex Fisher commanded both the mound and the batter’s box in the first, throwing nothing but strikes on defense and batting in an early RBI on offense to start the game. Page’s poor hitting kept them out of the game for the first three innings.

Hornets trump Pride

GREENVILLE – Alex Fisher grinned from the pitcher’s mound into the Wilson Memorial dugout after his 4-2 victory over Riverheads on Friday afternoon. He passed by his teammates and shared high-fives and cheers. The senior did not have to explain what his reasons were — but his stats did. He threw one-hit ball until the sixth inning and struck 10 before he packed his bags to go home.

Luray rocks Wilson

FISHERSVILLE — Wilson Memorial had Luray in a stalemate, holding onto a 1-1 tie against Shenandoah’s No. 1 team. After battling for five innings a couple of Wilson mistakes turned into an eight-run Bulldog inning that led to a 10-2 Luray win. “Six out of seven innings we played with them, but a couple of mistakes early in [the fifth] just snowballed,” said Wilson coach Derek McDaniel. “That just busted it open.”
