After weeks of speculation and backing out of his verbal commitment to the University of Richmond, R.E. Lee quarterback Dae’ Quan Scott today signed a national letter of intent to play football at James Madison University.
Scott, who finished his senior season with 2,241 rushing yards and 35 TD runs, signed his letter of intent on National Signing Day in the guidance office at the Staunton high school. Scott’s decision ends months of letters mailed to his home and phone calls from college coaches hoping to woo the 5-foot-10 signalcaller.
“It did get old,“ Scott said of the constant recruitment. “But I’d do it again if had the chance.“
With head coach David Tibbs and the rest of the Leemen coaching staff looking on, Scott, flanked by his parents Gail and Eddie Scott, donned a fresh-out-of-the-bag JMU hooded sweater and bit the tag off a purple JMU hat. Then he got to the business at hand, signing his name in front of television cameras while sitting at a large table.
“I’m relieved,“ Scott said.
