In Moneta, the Southern Valley girls soccer underdogs’ season was ended on Monday night, after Staunton River shutout Stuarts Draft 2-0.
Staunton River’s Britain McCullough and Michelle Behrer scored both goals.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Lord Botetourt tonight for the Region III quarterfinals.
In other Region III action:
Softball
* Rustburg 4, R.E. Lee 0
In Rustburg, the Devils blanked the Lee Ladies on Monday night to advance to the Region III quarterfinals.
Rustburg scored runs three runs in the third and one in the sixth to pick up the win. Kara Bowles took the win for Rustburg.
Tennis
In Fort Defiance, Stuart Draft’s Jessica Miller defeated Lord Botetourt’s Bethany Sass 6-0, 6-3 on Monday afternoon in the Region III individual girls tournament.
R.E. Lee’s Rachel Obenschain defeated Northside’s Ashley Masterson 6-4, 7-6 but lost to Jefferson Forest’s Morgan Huff 6-0, 6-2.
In girls doubles, Waynesboro’s Shawnte Woodson and Kiawna Berry defeated Sass and Mackenzie Tyree of Lord Botetourt 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. The Waynesboro squad will play in the semifinals against Kaitlin Helsley and Haley Day.
In Lynchburg, at the Region III doubles tennis tournament held at Heritage the results Draft’s Scott Nelson and Brent Floyd were defeated by Jefferson Forest 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Robert E. Lee’s Thomas Bell and Will Sowers defeated Lord Botetourt, 6-2, 6-2. Lee is seeded No. 1 in the Southern Valley District going into the Regional tournament. They will play Broadway tomorrow at Heritage High School for the Regional semifinals at 4 p.m. The winner of that match will play the winner of the Harrisonburg and Jefferson Forest match for the Regional III finals.
