PREP BASEBALL: Chatham ends Riverheads’ run
CHATHAM — Their ultimate goal isn’t yet accomplished, but the Chatham Cavaliers already feel a sense of relief. Playing in its third consecutive Region B semifinal, Chatham finally got over the hump with a 14-2 victory over Riverheads on Thursday night to lock up a berth into next week’s Group A tournament.

FORT DEFIANCE – When Fort Defiance got leadoff hitters aboard they brought them in — and then some — drubbing Stuarts Draft 14-4 to win the Shenandoah Valley District tournament Thursday.

The momentum from the first batter lasted up until the very last for Robert E. Lee as it beat Waynesboro 9-2 in the Southern Valley District consolation game on Thursday to gain the final Region III bid. This will be the first time the Leemen have made the region tournament in nine years.

Riverheads’ junior pitcher Cody Montgomery made sure that his senior teammates live to play another day. Montgomery pitched a three-hitter and went 5-5 at the plate as the Gladiators advanced to the championship game of the Shenandoah District baseball tournament.
BASEBALL: Fort’s Sipe blanks Lee
Fort Defiance lefthander Blake Sipe mixed a curve and fastball Tuesday to limit R.E. Lee to four hits and pitch the Indians into the Southern Valley District tournament finals with a 9-0 win.

Buffalo Gap rode two late-inning bursts at the plate, pulling away from Page County in the fifth inning for a 4-2 win, advancing to the Shenandoah District tournament championship game.
