Model Secondary School ousted Fishburne 26-0 on Friday for a Capital Area Football Conference win.
The Caissons fell behind early in the first quarter after Model was on Fishburne’s 39-yard line. Model quarterback Anthony Palmer connected on 11-yard pass to teammate Sean Harden. Harden then ran 27-yards to spot the ball on the one and Palmer scampered in for the one-yard touchdown. Model missed the extra point to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead.
That was the only score by either team in the first half.
“We still need to stick to what we have learned,” said Caissons coach Val Gochenour. “We were intercepted a couple of times tonight. We just need to work on our passing.”
Model held the host team to 91 yards in the first half.
“Yes, we need to work on our blocking. But we have to handle our emotions better,” Gochenour said.
After the first half, the Caissons had no relief.
Model added another touchdown in the third quarter, but failed on the two-point conversion. Later, Fishburne punter and kickerOwen McKay put the ball 35-yards into the Model territory and the Caissons defense held the team, but during Fishburne’s next drive, the offense fumbled. Fishburne’s next drive was cut short by an Eric Klockowski interception.
Fishburne had an opportunity on a short field late in the third quarter, but lost yardage due to a penalty and could not rebound.
In fourth quarter Model added 14 more points on the board.
“I told the team after the first half that we needed to do better,” said Model coach Mark Burke. “These kids have worked hard all year. They deserve all the credit.”
Palmer gave credit to his O-line.
“I only did a good job because of the way my team played. They backed me up,” Palmer said.
