There wasn’t much going right for the Little Giants on Friday night.
Waynesboro was pushed, pummeled and prodded by Spotswood as the Trailblazers ran away with a 47-6 non-district football win over the Little Giants.
Spotswood passed for 125 yards and ran for 350 and dominated Waynesboro on the defensive side as well.
The ‘Blazers’ Nick Wimer was the workhorse, plowing up 218 yards of Waynesboro turf on 14 carries and scoring three touchdowns while teammate Zach Miller added two scores and 61 yards.
Even Spotswood’s defense scored as Ashlyn Rhodes tackled the Little Giants’ Terrell Taylor in the end zone for a safety late in the first quarter.
“It gets frustrating,” Waynesboro coach Steve Isaacs said after the loss. “But then I’ll sit down for a little bit and realize that this will take time. We just haven’t found that point yet where everything clicks.”
The Little Giants certainly didn’t click in the first half, mustering just 10 yards of offense. They gave up a safety, lost a fumble and tossed an interception.
Against the Waynesboro defense, Spotswood converted five of eight third down attempts and both fourth down plays and found success on both ground and air attacks.
A 21-yard reverse run by Michael Glover got the ‘Blazers on the board and it capped off a 10-play, 47-yard drive that ate up nearly six minutes of the clock.  Michael Bullis booted the extra point and Spotswood never looked back.
Rhodes cashed in for the Trailblazer defense catching Taylor in the visitors’ end zone on the ensuing Waynesboro series.  A 19-yard loss from a bad snap set up the defensive score.
With good field position from the hosts’ 35 following the free kick, Spotswood wasted little time in tacking on another score. Miller’s five-yard sweep with nine seconds left and a Matt Kyger pass to R.J. Dofflemeyer capped the scoring in the first quarter.
Bullis connected on a 30-yard field goal and Wimer scored his first of three touchdowns as Spotswood led 26-0 at the half.
The Trailblazers put to rest any thought of a Waynesboro comeback after intermission with a 7-play, 60-yard drive and a 2-yard run by Wimer.
But Thompson gave Waynesboro something to cheer about as he ran the perfect draw play, dashing 61 yards for the only Little Giant score of the game. Spotswood’s Jacob Delauder blocked the extra point to throw water on the fire.
Spotswood would add two more scores on a 26-yard run by Wimer and a 7-yard run by Miller.
“A lot of people are taking shots at us this year,” Isaacs said. “That’s okay. We can take it.  But one of these days we’ll return the favor,” he said. “We have a lot of young kids and we’ve seen some key injuries this season.”
Waynesboro was paced by Taylor’s 77 yards.
