FISHERSVILLE — Everything clicked for Goochland in its 6-2 Region B semifinal win over Wilson Memorial on Wednesday. “It all just fell into place,” Goochland coach Ron Spessard said. The Bulldogs were able to take control two minutes into the game when forward Luke Gall sent one into the net. The Bulldogs’ fancy footwork enabled them to win a majority of the one-on-one plays, however the Hornets’ defense was missing their key fullback, Kyle Inlow, due to illness.May 26, 2008

FISHERSVILLE — Wilson Memorial almost saw its tournament championship hopes disappear in six minutes on Thursday afternoon. The Green Hornets led 2-0 and looked to have the Shenandoah District tournament boys soccer championship well in their grasp, until two Stonewall Jackson goals in the final six minutes sent the match into overtime. After a huddle in which the team yelled out, “Dattilio!” the girls took the field playing, their hearts out for the fallen leaders. “We had a tough time concentrating last night during practice, everyone was down,” Riverheads coach Homes Tehrani said. “The team made a dedication for the rest of the season to be for Coach Dattilio. The Cougars fought a worthy opponent in the Southern Valley Tournament on Friday night, winning 2-1 in four overtimes and defeating the No. 1 seed Fort Defiance. STAUNTON — Robert E. Lee defeated the Little Giants 4-1 on Friday afternoon ending Waynesboro’s season. Lee came back from a goal deficient and netted three more during the last half of a match to reserve a spot against Stuarts Draft next Tuesday in the Southern Valley Tournament. Lee coach Andrew Green said his team had the right motivation against the Giants. It all started at Waynesboro. The Giants defeated Lee at home 5-1 in its first match. FISHERSVILLE — The game between Wilson Memorial and Nelson County came down to penalty kicks. A pair of fouls against the Hornets led to two goals for the Governors in the first half as Nelson County held on for a 3-2 win on the road Wednesday night. FISHERSVILLE – Everything was there in the match between Wilson Memorial and Buffalo Gap on Tuesday, but after a double overtime the two teams stayed tied at 0-0. Both teams were equally matched in height, speed, and aggression, but Wilson had one thing over Gap, conditioning. Waynesboro pulled ahead early and held on late to maintain an 8-3 win over Robert E. Lee on Tuesday in Waynesboro. Less than three minutes into the game, Mark Ostrander scored on a Martin Mandujano assist to give the Little Giants a 1-0 advantage.
