FORT DEFIANCE – Stuarts Draft is battle tested. The Cougars fought a worthy opponent in the Southern Valley Tournament on Friday night, winning 2-1 in four overtimes and defeating the No. 1 seed Fort Defiance.
Brooke Reynolds netted the winning goal that advanced the Cougars to the finals. Reynolds said her team was determined to win.
“It feels great,” Reynolds said about her goal. “Last time we played here we lost, everyone wanted to win this badly, and everyone on the team knew they had to play their personal best.”
Draft scored the first goal from Keri Tillison, but Fort answered within two minutes to keep the game knotted.
“They played a great game,” Draft coach Danielle Christian said about Fort Defiance. “We both played a great game.”
Draft broke the tie in dramatic fashion.
“I just wanted us to score after the first overtime, but when Brooke got that goal, I was so happy for her,” Christian said.
Christian said her team worked hard to get to this victory.
“Oh what a feeling, Oh what a feeling it is,” Christian said. “We came from nothing, and to be able to win is just amazing. these girls worked really hard for this.”
Draft will play against Robert E. Lee on Tuesday night.
