In Bridgewater, fresh off a playoff game with Page County that clinched the regular season Shenandoah District title on Monday, the Wilson Memorial softball team marched on through the tournament blanking Stonewall 6-0 at Bridgewater College.
The semifinal win against the Generals sets up a rematch with the Panthers tonight for the Shenandoah District tournament title. No Region B berths are on the line in tonight’s game at 5 p.m. at Bridgewater College, with both teams wrapping up their spots. Wilson will enter the Region B tournament as the No. 1 seed.
In their previous three meetings the Green Hornets hold a 2-1 advantage against the Panthers. Wilson won the first contest and lost the second during the regular season. Wilson beat Page 2-1 on Monday afternoon in a special playoff game to clinch the district’s top seed.
In Tuesday’s game Wilson scattered seven hits while committing one error. The Generals had only two hits on four errors.
Wilson Memorial pitcher Summer Ramsey struck out nine Stonewall batters to pick up the win.
The Green Hornets scored their first run in the third inning on an Amanda Bradley sacrifice fly scored Summer Ramsey.
In the fourth Wilson broke the score wide open scoring four runs. Sarah Toman, Leah Pagett, Debbie Groves and Caitlyn Turner all scored in the inning.
Wilson’s final run came in the fifth inning when a Pagett single scored Bradley.
