Coon, Howard win Shenandoah singles

In Fishersville, Buffalo Gap’s Rachel Coon and Riverheads’ Isaac Howard both won Shenandoah District singles tournament titles on Wednesday night.
Coon defeated Wilson’s Hannah Shields 6-1, 6-0 in the championship round. She reached the finals after beating Riverheads’ Mary Martin 6-0 in the semifinals. Shields beat Stonewall’s Lydia Foltz 4-2 in the semis.
Howard defeated Wilson’s Matt Harris 6-0, 6-3 in the championship round. Harris went into the tournament as the No. 1 seed. Howard also defeated Buffalo Gap’s Robert Strickler 8-4 in the semifinals.
The Shenandoah District tennis tournament will resume today in Fishersville for the doubles matches.
