FISHERSVILLE — Wilson Memorial and Stuarts Draft battled Tuesday night for bragging rights.
After five intense matches at the hive, the Green Hornets won 3-2 over the Cougars 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 21-25 and 18-16.
It was a dog fight from the beginning, with the teams trading games, but the Green Hornets pulled out in front and stayed in their first home match of the season. In the second match , the Cougars, made their move.
Draft lost seven seniors from last year’s team and is still adjusting. But a roster can be deceiving. Junior Erin Brown had 13 points and two aces giving Wilson fits.
“We have a young team, but these girls did a great job tonight,” Draft coach Kami Meeteer said. “I was not worried that we are younger than Wilson or that we fell behind. They are a tough team and we came out fighting. This is a rivalry, but a friendly rivalry.”
Wilson tied the game 14-14 but bad volleys and sideouts allowed Draft to clinch it.
Wilson came back to win the third match 25-23. Draft answered back with blocking from Kamron Johnson, who had eight kills and five blocks, to win the fourth.
The Green Hornets got the best of the Cougars in the final game, winning by two points.
