FORT DEFIANCE – Stuarts Draft is battle tested. The Cougars fought a worthy opponent in the Southern Valley Tournament on Friday night, winning 2-1 in four overtimes and defeating the No. 1 seed Fort Defiance. STAUNTON — Robert E. Lee defeated the Little Giants 4-1 on Friday afternoon ending Waynesboro’s season. Lee came back from a goal deficient and netted three more during the last half of a match to reserve a spot against Stuarts Draft next Tuesday in the Southern Valley Tournament. Lee coach Andrew Green said his team had the right motivation against the Giants. It all started at Waynesboro. The Giants defeated Lee at home 5-1 in its first match. BRIDGEWATER — All though Buffalo Gap stormed out to a 4-0 lead, the Bison couldn’t hold on as Luray won the Shenandoah District tournament playoff game 6-5 Friday night. The exciting loss sent Buffalo Gap into Monday’s tournament semifinals against Wilson Memorial. The game will be held at Harrisonburg High School at 7 p.m. A walk to the Bison’s Ryan Sheridan got the Gap rally started in the top of the second. With one out, back-to-back doubles by Austin Bowers and J.R. Hart brought in two runs. The Bison scored twice more courtesy of a pair of infield errors by the Bulldogs.Giants advance to finals

HARRISONBURG — The Riverheads girls ended Buffalo Gap’s six-year winning streak, taking the Shenandoah District girls track championship with a 38-point win over runner-up Wilson Memorial. Riverheads took the boys championship as well, defeating Stonewall Jackson. Leading the way for the Riverheads girls was sophomore Rebecca Grubb who took first in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Coon, Howard win Shenandoah singles
In Fishersville, Buffalo Gap’s Rachel Coon and Riverheads’ Isaac Howard both won Shenandoah District singles tournament titles on Wednesday night. Coon defeated Wilson’s Hannah Shields 6-1, 6-0 in the championship round. She reached the finals after beating Riverheads’ Mary Martin 6-0 in the semifinals. FISHERSVILLE — The game between Wilson Memorial and Nelson County came down to penalty kicks. A pair of fouls against the Hornets led to two goals for the Governors in the first half as Nelson County held on for a 3-2 win on the road Wednesday night. Now Waynesboro believes it has the confidence, momentum and ability to move forward in the Southern Valley District tournament that begins on Friday. “The girls are getting focused with the district tournament coming up,” said Waynesboro coach Jason Aleshire. Hosting the final regular season game of the year, the Little Giants put together seven strong innings to knock off Harrisonburg 11-4 in non-district action, while only committing one error. Wenger breaks Gap’s home run record
SWOOPE – Josh Wenger broke the Buffalo Gap High School record for most home runs recorded in a single season hitting his ninth of the year in Gap’s 10-0 win against Riverheads on Tuesday.
