STUARTS DRAFT - Senior day proved to be beneficial for a pair of Stuarts Draft wrestlers as Will Womack and Jeremy Clawson won most of their matches at the Cougar Classic Wrestling Tournament Saturday.
Giants hold on against Gobblers
Waynesboro finally found a team to match up against but still came out on top with a 61-51 victory over Broadway.
Wilson ekes out win over Pride
It was just your ordinary Augusta County battle Friday night as Wilson Memorial came into Riverheads and knocked off the Gladiators 44-42. The win puts Wilson just a game behind first place in the Shenandoah District with three weeks left in the regular season.

In Broadway, the Waynesboro boys basketball team escaped a scrappy Broadway team on Friday night picking up a 49-46 non-district win.

The fourth quarter of the Waynesboro girls basketball game had a sudden halt Friday when a cheerleader was injured and had to be carted away to an ambulance.

Gap picks up Shenandoah win
SWOOPE - With a 51-45 lead, the ball and a minute and a half on the clock, and first place in the Shenandoah District on the line, Buffalo Gap football star Pickle Nuckols fired a 3-point shot. The shot was off target, but Bison coach James Carter didn't seem overly upset when the ball careened off the rim.
Wilson beats Pride by two

STUARTS DRAFT - Stuarts Draft proved all four quarters have to be played in order to win as they outscored Robert E. Lee 19-8 in the fourth quarter, in route to a 47-41 win Friday night. The Cougars looked hungry as they stepped out of the huddle to start the fourth quarter. Little did the crowd know, and the Lee Ladies for that matter, that Sabrina Desper would take the game into her hands, assuming the lead and the game for the Cougars.

FISHERSVILLE - The Riverheads girls basketball team peaked at the right time, taking down Shenandoah district foe and rival Wilson Memorial on Wednesday night.

Riverheads coach John Corbett knew it wasn't going to be easy Tuesday night. Even when he saw his squad jump out to an 18-5 lead in the first period, he still knew it was going to be a tough night. And he was right.

Fort takes tourney
FORT DEFIANCE - Saturday's 19th annual News Leader Invitational Wrestling Tournament couldn't have been any closer unless it had ended in a tie. After all the holds, pins and decisions were tabulated, host Fort Defiance emerged with a half-point team victory over second-place R.E. Lee. Buffalo Gap finished a close third.

GREENVILLE - Riverheads worked the ball inside and outmuscled Buffalo Gap 67-51 in a Shenandoah District game on Friday night. The Gladiators used a run to start each of the four quarters to control the game and take momentum.

Wilson 15-0 run stops Page
FISHERSVILLE-Wilson Memorial went on a 15-0 run to start the game on its way to a dominating 67-35 victory over Page County on Tuesday. Diedre Deacon and Marla Young got the Hornets off to a quick start, scoring nine of the game's first 10 points.
Streaks drop Draft
STUARTS DRAFT ' Harrisonburg gave Stuarts Draft every opportunity to take the game back, but the Blue Streaks pulled out with a 52-48 win over the Cougars on Tuesday.
Gladiators pull together for a win
GREENVILLE - Stealing a win at Riverheads' gym is tough no matter which team is trying to slip in a "W." Luray was reminded of that adage during Tuesday's Shenandoah District game. "We never play well in this gym," said Luray coach Johnny Painter.

In Penn Laird, looking for its third win of the season over Spotswood, the Waynesboro girls basketball team fought back after falling behind by 12 with three minutes left to play, but fell just short in a 61-59 loss to the Trailblazers.
